The NV Champagne Cuvée 748 is a preview of this wine that has not yet been released and was disgorged just prior to tasting. Sourced from four single plots, predominantly from the 2020 vintage, it will be released next year. It’s expressive, forward, and mineral on the nose, with a vibrant sensibility at this youthful stage, offering notes of fresh red berries, wet, chalky earth, and toasted shortbread. It boasts a linear intensity, with a coiled and nervous energy at this early stage and has a long finish, with its citrus-noted fruit lasting long after the wine is gone. It will be exciting to see this as it fleshes out with another few months to a year or more in bottle. So mouthwatering and salty, with electric energy, it‘s joyful and pleasing as it opens, but it has a way to go before its ready.

The latest in the Chiques family's very successful initiative of numbered NV cuvées, this is based on 2010 with one-third reserve wine in the blend. The nose has plenty of bright chardonnay fruits, lime and lemon, green melon notes and a little spicy edge, plus plenty of stony, chalky notes too. The palate's nicely paced, delivering the same swathe of citrus on arrival, building to more savory, nutty characters as it goes. Lemon and lime sherbet flavors; acidity is crunchy and energetic. Drink now or over the next five years, longer if you like more of the toasty stuff.

Champagne Club by Richard Juhlin
Jacquesson's concept of individually numbering the different editions of the non-vintage or multi-vintage wine has become a huge success even though it is impossible to keep track of which vintage forms the basis of each wine. So many have followed suit and are trying to find their own detail to stand out. Basically, I love the fact that they emphasize that each new vintage must leave its mark even on the standard champagnes. However, the 2020 that is the base here is not as clear as it usually is. In order to maintain the basic style, Jacquesson has toned down the fruit slightly and increased the amount of Chardonnay to maintain freshness and house style. I am always fond of these wines and have a small modest collection of the different editions. 748 is deliciously harmonious from the start, but will last a long time and reach its peak in 2028-2032.

Tasting note
From 728 to 748, 20 years of creating the 700 cuvées. 55% of the harvest came from Aÿ, Dizy, Hautvillers and Champillon and 45% from Avize and Oiry. Winter was mild and very wet whereas spring was particularly sunny and dry. After the stormy June weather, drought set in and these conditions prevailed until the end of September. Beautifully balanced and ripe grapes were harvested early from 26th August until 10th September. Respectful soil management and plant cultivation methods with the aim of expressing plot diversity. Vinifi cation and ageing in large wooden vats on the lees without either filtration or fining. Our Chardonnay grapes characterise this blend despite the addition of reserve wines from the 747 to 743 and the 741 cuvees.

The wine team - Jaquesson & Fils
Year after year, Jacquesson’s quality has improved significantly. Now under the ownership of French entrepreneur François Pinault—who also owns prestigious estates such as Château Latour, Château Grillet, Château d’Eugénie, Clos de Tart and Eisele Vineyards—the house is poised to continue producing Champagnes with exceptional freshness and crystalline textures. The range is impressively consistent, and each cuvée beautifully reflects the soul and the distinct terroirs of this house based in Dizy.
