Drappier - Carte d'Or Brut [12 liter]

Andreas Larsson - Tasted

Bright straw colour with a copper hue and young vivid mousse. Pure nose, some vinous and autolytic presence, pinot-dominant red fruit notes, crushed raspberry, plum, pear, ginger and clove with slight bread and brioche. Generous and ample palate, rounded with a mild creaminess, classic dosage-level, yet with a well-preserved freshness, generous young fruit and a creamy long finish.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

As always, the NV Brut Carte d'Or is a classic, well-executed and perfumed Champagne. It evokes aromas of white peach, ripe orchard fruits, pastry and spices. Medium-bodied, round and enrobing, it's delicately vinous and framed by an elegant mousse, with a lovely, mouthwatering, ripe orchard fruits-inflected finish. This blend of 80% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Meunier was disgorged with 6.5 grams per liter dosage.

The NV Champagne Carte d’Or Brut is 75% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Meunier, and the remainder Chardonnay, with 6.5 grams per liter dosage. There is 80% base wine from the 2019 vintage and the remainder reserve wine. This is their historical style, with the nose offering up aromas of ripe apricot, yellow flowers, and cherry liqueur. The palate is round and a bit more structured, with more stone fruit and kirsch. Drink 2022-2032.
Drappier is an eighth generation family house based in the Aube. Although their focus is predominantly on Pinot Noir, they continue to farm the heirloom varietals of Fromenteau, Arbanne, Petit Meslier, and Blanc Vrai. Today they own 62 hectares, of which 7 hectares are entirely farmed with horses and the rest with electric vehicles, and they have contracts with additional growers. In 2005, they began producing their own electricity and in 2015 they became accredited as carbon neutral. They have also made advancements to reduce their footprint by producing the lighter glass bottles they use today.

James Suckling

A quite fruity style with ripe red apples, stone fruit and citrus aromas. Toasted bread. Light-bodied, this has fine bubbles and a leaner palate with moderate acidity. Drink now.

Tom Cannavan

Almost a Blanc des Noirs with just 15% of Chardonnay joining 80% Pinot Noir and 5% Meunier. A small proportion (5%) of the base wine is matured in barrel for a year and the dosage is a modest 7g/l. It has a pale lemony colour and plenty of small bubbles. Aromas are of flowers and elegant, light, lemony fruit, with a gentle background yeastiness. In the mouth this has real élan, with racy and crisp apple and sweet ripe pear, a lovely flourish of acidity cleansing and playing against those hints of toffee and brioche. Delicious, long and another favourite.

Falstaff

Light golden yellow, silver reflections, very delicate mousse. Hints of meadow herbs and fresh pear fruit on the bouquet with mineral touches, a little lime zest. Medium complexity, ripe yellow apple, discreet acidity, blossom honey on the finish, lemony-nutty aftertaste. A versatile food wine.
