Wine Spectator

Andreas Larsson - Tasted

Medium deep copper hue, some maturity. Fine nose of dry spices, clove, red berries, rather pinot style with plum, pear and nougat. The palate has a good bite, ripe and mature with fine autolytic notes, brioche, cinnamon, clove and sweet red berries, good freshness and integrated mousse, long and rather vinous finish, good maturity and depth.

Champagne Club by Richard Juhlin

Maybe a little too recently disgorged, but anyway a little less impressive than the complex white variant. Large and supportive, but also a bit closed and rocky hard where the oak needs time to integrate.

James Suckling

Copper-orange color with beautiful aromas of oyster shells, blood oranges, salted yellow plums, vertiver, ginseng, brown butter and salted almonds. Creamy, broad and powerful, yet elegant, with soft bubbles. Vinous and serious rosé with a long, savory finish. 90% pinot noir and 10% chardonnay. Drink or hold.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

A˙ Grand Cru Fût de Chęne Brut MV Rosé reveals enticing aromas of pastry, peony, red berries, blood orange and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, it is both elegant and elegantly tannic, with a layered and tense structure supported by bright acidity and a long, ethereal finish. This blend consists of 80% Pinot Noir (with 6% as red wine) and 20% Chardonnay, and it was disgorged in February 2023.

Since the arrival of Sébastien Le Golvet, the chef de cave and Claude Giraud’s son-in-law, the style of this A˙ house has considerably evolved toward more fine, elegant and refined Champagnes with barely noticeable oak aromas. The house own nine hectares of vines, mainly in A˙, complemented with purchased grapes. Sébastien Le Golvet, like Claude Giraud, is an advocate of barrel fermentation. His work on barrels, containers, fermentation and maturation processes is simply stunning and is always filled with innovation, research and development and questioning the fundamentals. This dynamism allows the Champagnes from this house to be among the finest, most elegant and most precise that I tasted on my last trip.

Tasting note

'Made on the same basis as the Fût de Chêne MV, it benefits from the addition of red wine from old Pinot Noirs located on a parcel in the commune of Aÿ (les froides terres).

To create this unique Champagne part of the blend is fermented in small new barrels made from Argonne oak for 10 days at 13-18°C, going through full natural malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine is matured on the full lees for one year in 228L Argonne barrels (20% new) then blended with new wine and aged in a solera system of small oak barrels for a further 12 months before it is transferred into bottles. The wine is matured in its bottle for a further 6 years before disgorgement.

On the nose it gives off spicy aromas and fresh red fruits. On the palate, the chalk of Aÿ lands on the tip of the tongue and mingles with the notes of red fruit, tangerine and smoked meat typical of this vinification. Its salinity and beautiful bitters make it a great Champagne rosé. To be enjoyed with spicy oriental dishes or a nice matured charcuterie.'
