Robert Parker Wine Advocate
One of my favorites, the 2018 Pur Mesnil Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs possesses a pure, fresh bouquet of white fruits, lemon oil, flowers, ripe orchard fruits and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enrobing, it's perfectly balanced with bright acids, a pinpoint mousse, and a long, mineral and ethereal finish. Fleshier and more precise than the Avize, it was disgorged with a dosage of 3.3 grams per liter.
This house in the commune of Avize (Côte des Blancs) produces bright, fresh and finely crafted Champagnes that truly impressed me. Olivier Bonville, who took over the family estate in 1996, has an exceptional ability to express the unique character of each commune and terroir, a testament to his meticulous work in the vineyard and the cellar. A strong advocate of aging Champagnes under cork for several years before release, Olivier ensures that the houses Champagnes are always marked by their finesse, purity and tension, displaying elegance and refinement.
With his son-in-law, Ferdinand Ruelle, Olivier Bonville founded a separate lineup from purchased grapes: Odyssée 319.

2000 bottles of each from Oger, Avize and Mesnil. It would be sacrilege to do anything other than traste the entire trio of Pur wines side by side. In 2018, they are more similar to each other than before, so we can assume that the character of the vintage dominates over the terroir this time. All three of them have a deliciously refreshing and showy airy fruit that is absolutely wonderful from the start. They are also more impressive in taste than in smell altogether. Mesnil also has a slightly lower dosage of 2 grams instead of 4 for the other two in the trio. The end result is that this wine stands out most with its slightly more pronounced petroleum tone and crunchy Meursault-like butteriness.
Tasting note
We have made this cuvée from a selection of 3 plots, mainly located down the hill of Le Mesnil sur Oger. After more than 5 years of ageing under natural cork, we find it straight, well-structured with a great personality.
