James Suckling [vintage 2012]
A very rich, powerful and creamy Blanc de Blancs champagne with a slew of candied-orange and caramelized-grapefruit aromas, plus notes of sushi ginger and saffron. Gains in freshness after a bit of aeration in the glass, adding to its considerable appeal. Bone-dry but expansive finish that’s super-harmonious for this category. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.

Last out in the vineyard trio from 2012 is this lovely Cramant. The drink that you may have seen on one of the world's most beautiful beaches Anse sous d´Argent on La Digue in the Seychelles. Slightly dry and bio-driven in the current state where opulence wealth and the entire cream-dripping layer is not really in place yet despite a rich fruit and radiant minerality.
Robert Parker Wine Advocate [vintage 2013]
Disgorged in March 2023, the newly released 2014 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant unwinds in the glass with aromas of crisp stone fruit, freshly baked bread, white flowers, buttery pastry and clear honey. Full-bodied, pillowy and chiseled, with a sweet core of fruit, tangy acids and a penetrating, electric finish, it's a terrific success.
As I've written before, Larmandier-Bernier numbers among the Côte de Blanc's—and Champagne's—finest estates. Based in Vertus, the Larmandier family farms organically and harvest late, vinifying the resulting wines in wood. The result is vinous, elegantly muscular Champagnes that are concentrated but precise. In a region that still produces far too many meager, brittle wines, Larmander-Bernier reminds us of the plenitude and texture of which great Champagne is capable. The range begins with two non-vintage Blanc de Blancs: Latitude, broad and charming; and Longitude, more chiseled and incisive. Next come three vintage cuvées: Vieille Vigne de Levant, from Cramant; Les Chemins d’Avize, from the eponymous village; and the Terre de Vertus. Two perfumed rosé de saignée cuvées complement the portfolio, now joined by small quantities of still red and white Côteaux Champenois. This year sees the release of a one-off Blanc de Noirs, produced from grapes deemed too ripe for rosé production in the 2015 vintage.
Jeb Dunnuck [vintage 2013]
The 2013 Champagne Vieille Vigne Du Levant takes things to the next level at Larmandier-Bernier. I love the aromatics, which flaunt the subtle and pretty of this cold vintage. Pouring a bright yellow color, it reveals detailed floral and candied citrus aromas in its notes of lemon drop candy, honeysuckle, and almond croissant. Medium to full-bodied, this is the most complete wine I have tasted today from this house, with a refined mousse and seamless acidity, and it only sees 2 grams per liter of dosage. This remarkable wine is drinking fantastically now and will have a long life ahead over the next decades. It’s long on the palate and a memorable wine.
